I had a unique opportunity this morning to photograph a true inspiration for life. I was asked a few days back to document an interview with
a recently released inmate of the Florida penal system. Mr. James (Jaime) Bain was set
free after spending 35 years behind bars for a crime he was eventually
exonerated of. Thanks to modern technology and a group of lawyers who believed his
story, he is now a free man. Article writer Chris Olson interviewed Mr. Bain
as he recalled his 35-year judicial journey. I captured moments of pain and
hope on a simple piece of plastic he knows nothing about. The net, cell phones,
and a digital cameras are still new to this soft-spoken man. What I and my
assistant for the day (Freddy) gathered from this event was an overwhelming
feeling of humbleness. This man who has every reason to hate his accusers, the
legal system and basically life in general…. Doesn’t! He’s fine, he’s happy to
be alive and to have had the truth finally received by the ones who held him
away.
Shooting life is beautiful and I’d do it over and over
again. Remember to smile, remember to believe and most of all remember to LIVE.
Spread the word and spread the love…
P.S. As soon as the official article is released, I will
post it on the blog with all the photos from the shoot.
